Coventry's an Ugly Place to Live
Coventry's the 7th ugliest place in the UK!

Well, it isn't the prettiest of places...
To be fair, the post war planners have screwed up pretty badly. There never seems to have been any joined up thinking or an overall scheme thought through.

Coventry is pretty much concrete central. Apparently it was one of the cheapest building products available after the war, which the near-broke government found fairly appealing.

The name Chaventry has been around for a while Margaret. There are some web sites that give Coventry a very bad review.... Perhaps at times it's deserved?
Was that girl actually from Coventry? - I saw a report somewhere that she was from Gloucestershire.
You may want to read this CLICKY LINK But please be warned, the language is very strong

The piecemeal redevelopment of Coventry has not done much to enhance this City. Roads going nowhere, and eyesores like the big blue Ikea building, right next to the 'Olde Worlde' Spon Sreet shops- which had so much money spilled into them and where where no-one goes. The market is good but is supposed to be moving when the
Jerde project gets going again. Many old buildings have gone, neglected beyond repair, altho' other cities would have envied us. The monastery-right on the busy ring road -that was exceptional planning too, another enviable asset, now used as a store place. with no access to the public, although dodging the the continuous rush hour of the ring roads would be a tad hazardous
.Fortunately the 12th Century Coventry Charterhouse has been delivered from the CCC clutches to a trust, and will be restored and used by the public , but only
after it was left in such a poor state of repair.
There are some beautiful places in the city. Lady Herberts Garden is lovely but often neglected, Swanswell too. I could name more.
Haven't heard anything more about The old Grammar School lately. When I'm walking again I'll go and have a look, before a new ring road is planned around it.
I do think the planners should have a feel for the city, and not import some new chap--always a chap, who messes up and then goes after a couple of years to mess up some other town.
I'm not depressed-- but I feel so sad about it all.
