Accepting that things are very fluid, it currently looks like next Tuesday might hit 30C, but a hefty drop on Wednesday to 24C. I think I'll wait and see.

As an aside, I know several people have the heating on in the evenings!

It was that 'warm' today, that I was still wearing a fleece.

I've been wondering when we're going to get warnings about water shortages: https://rugbyobserver.co.uk/news/as-heatwave-hits-the-midlands-today-and-is-set-continue-into-next-week-severn-trent-issues-water-warning-and-advice-39711/

It really p*sses me off. We're an island, how can we possibly be short of water? What it means is that the authorities have (as usual) put profits before their customers.

Forecast's for 38/39 degrees C. on Monday. Thankfully, work's letting us wear casual/shorts next week.

Look on the bright side, there won't be many snowflakes left after Tuesday. LOL

Other countries manage, and so will we. It might be slightly warmer than '76, but nowhere near as prolonged.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of long-term planning around the long term trends. One of the down sides of democracy is that planning only goes as far as the next election.

We used to call it the '3 minute' society, Lex.

Very little is looked at long-term (more than 12 months) these days, but it didn't always used to be that way.

Wow. 12 months is short-term on planet Lex. For me, 30-40 years is medium/long-term.

You're in a very small minority, Lex. Look at how accountants are only interested in the next year's balance sheet. Look at how many companies have a realistic 5-year, never mind 10-year, plan. Look at how many people will be prepared to save for 12 months for something.

When you look at it, it really isn't very good. There are very few visionaries prepared to put in the work and effort to obtain/achieve something.

Short-termism is a real problem, and sadly, I can only see it getting worse.

Well, my 30 year plan's out the window again. According to our level-headed media, this time we're going to wilt/evaporate/melt due to the high temperatures.

I've worked in the Middle East, I'm still here! Common sense (not so common) is all that is needed, and it's only going to be a couple of days. It really rattles me just how gullible and easily spooked the average person is.

I am using practical methods to regulate the temperature indoors. I keep the door from the porch closed so the porch acts as a heat trap. A small window open and it is 46 Celsius. Come into the house and in comparison it is cool at just under 23 degrees. The sitting room at the back can be a heat trap with sliding doors on 2 sides so am keeping the curtains closed. One window partly open on a shady side and no fans running. I did the necessary things early this morning -was up at 5 am and have spent the day being relaxed, doing the odd job and drinking water.

I really want to get to the bottom of this issue that has been narking me and nowhere to find info.
Right, So I like stainless steel cookware, but the quality is flummoxing me . How do I know it is a good quality food grade stainless steel, apart from the standard 18/10, which is I think, is 18% chrome and 10% nickel.. I guess the rest is iron and carbon.

The steel itself is graded I for certain utensils, such as cooking is usually from 304 and 316 , and I think higher for surgical instruments, the higher the number the higher the grade.
Anyway before I get myself more befuddled, How can I tell if a pot I buy is good grade S.S. it isn't stamped on the bottom of the pot.

.
