Probably as much to do with saving money as helping wildlife: https://www.rugbyadvertiser.co.uk/news/environment/rugby-council-to-reduce-grass-cutting-on-13-more-sites-to-create-urban-meadows-and-boost-wildlife-1-8858977

I would suggest everything to do with money.

Well, we get enough wild life around here, where we live, same as elsewhere I guess. For instance, spotted in the garden over time, Rats, mice, toads , bees, butterflies, hedgehog, several variety of birds, hawks, owls, woodpeckers, and darn foxes and squirrels and I have seen bats in the evenings.

The bright sparks at Council left one of the roundabouts to grow wild with wild flowers and long grass etc. it resulted in causing a blind spot for pedestrians wanting to cross the road as you could not see if there was a car coming round from the other side of the round about, I suspect other car users found the same problem as it became more overgrown . I was going to complain but I didn't , but I shall if they do it this year.
