I've been following the story of the UK building stronger links with China, and am wondering if it's wise for the government to put so many eggs in the Chinese basket: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/local-news/new-flights-connect-coventry-warwickshire-10385546

The new factor in world history seems to be the alliance between China and Russia. Bearing in mind that the object of western policy throughout most of the 20th century was to keep these two giants divided. It was lucky for us that there were two different forms of communism, which ensured both countries would remain rivals. That does not now appear to be the case and the strong ties between both must represent the overturning of western policy since the Russian Revolution. Without being too suspicious, it would not surprise me if we are being told by Washington to seek closer relations with China to try and break off relations with Russia.

In my honest opinion, it is not wise.
Anyone who has ever dealt with China in a trade sense, knows the problems of honesty and of risking the theft of intellectual property. Frankly, I wouldn't urinate on them if they were on fire. What the UK is doing is a big mistake that we will pay for in the future.

It's happened before - we've snuggled up to the USA for years, and that's turned into more trouble than it's worth; we've done the same with the EU, and that's turning out badly. As the saying goes, 'Third time pays for all'; maybe future governments will learn the obvious lesson when things start going sour with China.
