I think we all know that the earth goes through climatic cycles, but to say that things were man made and that we could do much about it was pure fallacy.

Sadly, Gore (and a few others) made a lot of money out of the gullible and the stupid.

Yes, we need to treat the planet with respect and care, and we do need to clean up a lot of what we do, but to think that mother nature will let us destroy or damage the planet is naive in the extreme. If we step out of line, mother nature has a habit of giving us a slap to remind us just who's in charge.

Al Gore to Bernie Madoff:

"We need a new scam Bernie to get more tax money off the dopes. I've come up with this great idea called Global Warming''
"Sounds great Al, how can I help?"
"Well Bernie, I need you to come up with a great advertising angle, something to really hook all those suckers."
"Let me think about it Al, and I'll get back tomorrow."

Comes back to him next day.

"What about this Al, a photo of a polar bear on a piece of ice floating away."
"Wow, wow, that's great Bernie!!"

The scenario of a global warming catastrophe is complete nonsense, because in human history we have gone through warm cycles that have alternated with colder ones. The Vikings colonized Greenland over a millennium ago, because Greenland got warmer and not colder. Not only are the 'Warmists' very bad historians, but they even get caught out on their own myths. Remember not so long ago all the stuff we were hearing about acid rain? but not a peep from the 'Warmists' about acid rain now, when surely on their own data it should be getting far worse.
The other thing to say about them is that they have a very poor grasp of what science is. They continually harp on about a so called consensus , but of course science doesn't advance by a consensus. In fact, there isn't a consensus and many disagree both with their methodology and conclusions.
Wasn't it the University of East Anglia that was pumping this stuff? and then it was found out they were tampering with their own data to get the results they wanted.
The whole thing is now a huge scandal, and I personally feel that those promoting it at a professional level could be said to be breaching accepted codes and behaviour.

The scientific world (like many other academic ones) is twisted. To be taken seriously you need to have articles published in peer reviewed journals.

How can you actually go against the grain? If you don't conform to accepted 'wisdom' you don't get published. No published articles, you lack credibility!

Those that do speak out are ridiculed as nutters and have their careers destroyed.

The whole thing stinks!

Agreed!
The real problem is and which you touch on is that the university system in this country is more or less completely compromised. Frankly, its being going down hill for quite some time. Academic standards have almost collapsed and graduates from the last decade compare unfavourably with good A level students from the 1960's and 70's.
To cap it all, the non science departments have virtually been taken over by the Radical Left, who now dominate the institutions in this country.
So far a science is concerned, with the exception of Prof. Hawking, and one or two others in the medical area, we have very little that counts as real or hard science and a lot of it is just government applications. A lot of what counts for data on the Global Warming issue would have been completely dismissed even 50 years ago.
