I do remember being taught why when I was at primary school in Stratford, but it escapes me now and has been bugging me. Perfect place to ask really, does anyone know?

I've never been to Stratford Mop but I didn't know the origin of the term. Never thought that it was a recruiting fair. I don't know much about the county's history so I should probably get some books and do some research.

Stratford Mop's back again this year. I'm giving it a wide berth - not my thing nowadays, and the traffic & crowds are horrendous!
