Hi Everyone,
I know this should be under property/living in warwickshire but I also wanted to post here as I thought it might get more exposure to people who know specifically about Rugby.
I am moving to Rugby after having found a job in the town. I have looked to sources such as upmystreet.com and found some general information but was hoping that you would all be able to give me a bit more of a local perspective on renting in Rugby.
I wanted to know whether there are any areas of Rugby which should definitely be avoided for crime and safety reasons: whether there are any areas which have a reputation for being "rough"? I also wanted people's opinions on the safety of the town centre: within reason is it generally safe to walk home at night if you live nearby; are there any pubs which are better avoided; is there often violence/disorder in the town centre on the nights people go out and socialise?

Well, if you're not already here:
I have lived in Rugby for a while, so this is what I think.
Don't live North of the station. Everyone seems to like the brick boxes in Coton Meadows but its proximity to the dodgiest parts is frightening, especially if you want to walk to town. The town centre is south of the station. Bilton and Dunchurch roads have nice spots but yet again its very variable - one minute you're in perfect leafy suburbia, next minute a shellsuited youth with a pitbull is running towards you. Hillmorton area is generally fine if a bit further from the town. Off Hillmorton Road is nice generally but you still get these pockets of variability and crime. Lower Hillmorton Road too but as you get further out of town Lower Hillmorton Road gets a bit too dodgy for me and I wouldn't live there. You can buy booze and fags from a car parked in that street. I wouldn't live on or near Clifton Road.
The most surprising thing about Rugby is that there are very few areas that are nice to live in compared with other towns of its size.
Street crime is a problem in all areas of Rugby since the pikeys come to steal and mug in the expensive areas. So there's little you can do there but the area around the station and north of it, as well as the middle of Bilton Road maybe one mile out, is where drug activity seems to go on. Probably elsewhere too, but that's what I have seen and been told.
Walking is not really an option in Rugby. Everyone drives, fast, and I mean fast. I would never walk home from the town centre at night, for fear of mugging.
Its a lovely place but very strange. The upside is that there's a very fast train out of here both North and South.
The shopping is adequate if a bit limited.
Its also a very, very damp place.

That's a pretty depressing report on Rugby, is this how most resident feel about it?

Hello Mr/Ms/Mrs/Miss/Dr/Prof/Rgt Rev/Hon Samuel,
Did you find the info you were looking for? And did you stay in Rugby having found it?
