I'd thought it would have been turned into a museum, not housing: https://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/news/embarrassing-historic-buildings-in-warwick-could-be-set-for-a-revamp-1-8450806

WCC's getting involved. I wonder if the buildings will still just sit there and rot if the Council takes the site over: https://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/news/people/work-set-to-take-place-to-help-stop-historic-warwick-building-collapsing-1-9037080

Sadly Lex, that usually happens. I wonder if after stabilisation they can pursue the owner for costs and ensuring the building is kept up to scratch?

So the tax payers are going to pick up the bill? Whilst I understand the urgency, I hope that steps are taken to recover the costs from the land owner.

About time really.
It is a very important building Historically, the practice was to bring sick people into actual side isles of the church, or, build separate chapels. See the one at Dunwich in Suffolk. So this separate house is rare.

A good thing. I've been seeing the buildings slowly deteriorate for years.

It is a shame to see this building going to ruin which had an important part of Warwick's heritage. It should have been purchased long ago by the Council while they could have rescued it and turned it into a museum.

The conservation team at Warwick District Council are "deeply concerned" about the future of a historic building in the town.

Defined as "one of Warwick's most most important historic buildings", the Leper Hospital has been laying in ruin for many years and the council claims there are no future plans in place for the structure or its upkeep.

After the owner refused to sell, the council sent a Compulsory Purchase Order to the owner, but to no avail. The owner has once again objected, according to the council.

Both the council and Historic England have the money and plans to regenerate the site, which now remains under private ownership.

The site was purchased more than 30 years ago and is situated in Saltisford, comprising The Master’s House, St Michael’s Chapel and an Ancient Monument.

Warwick District Council’s portfolio holder for development Councillor John Cooke said: “With the ownership of a listed building such as the Leper Hospital comes the responsibility of its custodianship.

Looks like the hospital's going to be turned into housing; why preserve it for posterity when there's a few quid to be made?

A compulsory purchase order has been approved for the site. The current owner's done nothing with the site for years, s/he isn't going to do anything with it now, despite WDC 'giving them another chance': https://www.warwickcourier.co.uk/news/people/future-of-historic-leper-hospital-site-in-warwick-has-been-secured-says-council-3396047

I honestly can't see what there is to restore from that old Leper Hospital, it looks unsalvageable to me. And what if it was restored and refurbished, will it just be a useless empty shell of a building?
If they propose to build flats or housing there, I don't think residents will be to happy about people poking around looking at rebuilt copy of the hospital, because that is all it will be, a replica of what it used to be. Then how can a replica be grade listed?
