Most of Coventry's Uber (or whatever) drivers are actually licenced in Wolverhampton! Central government stopped local councils from protecting their own.
Personally speaking, I'd never use an Uber.

Stradford's taxis have been overpriced for decades (the council made us do it, the taxi drivers cry). Stratford won't be able to get rid of UBER, and has become a victim of its complacency (same with tourism).

Ubers and the like are causing real issues for local Taxi drivers. They just can't compete with them.
But once they're gone, watch the prices rise!
