I don't know what they use on these aircraft, but the ones I worked on were mechanically cocked and electrically released. For two to 'fail' like this sounds a bit odd. I wonder if the aircrew tried to release them over a target but for some reason they didn't deploy? However, I'd have thought that they'd have then reported that they had two insecure armed units aboard?

I think the enquiry report will be worth looking out for.

Woops! They couldn't have been locked in properly however they secure them. I don't know how they are attached.

It could have been very nasty though.
