Back to the tales of Red Flag...
A couple of Buccaneer crews tried making an unannounced attack by flying at 10 feet above the desert. They were only spotted because of the 'rooster tail' of dust that they kicked up behind them. The same pilots repeated the trick the next day by flying at 20 feet. This time they were not spotted.

On another exercise with the Yanks, we sent a Vulcan on an 'attack' mission. The Yanks knew it was coming and kept round the clock watch on their radar systems.
The first they knew that they'd been 'penetrated' was when a major airport rang up the chief of operations and told them that they'd had a Vulcan land and were not sure what to do with it.
They really didn't believe the low level flying skills of our pilots.

The RAF do have a sense of humour.
There was some footage shot in the mid 70s on operation Red Flag which was a regular war game that we carried out with the Yanks. Basically, a Vulcan bomber flies low level up a valley, the Yanks get a missile lock on to it and are about to claim a 'kill' when two Buccaneers appear from under the Vucan's wings and create absolute havoc. On one piece of footage the language of the commentator is quite something to hear.
Sadly, I can't find any online copies.
