It looks like the attendees had a good time, but at what expense of the locals? I'd also be interested to see qualified accounts of any monies brought into the city rather than the glib "it brought lots of money in" that we usually get.

I cannot think why this council always want to change Coventry-to be the next whatever the current word is.This time- Monaco-what a laugh !!. Is that an - if you cant beat 'em-join 'em thing. Boyracers and all that?
For all it's many faults-mostly caused by all the councils we've had since the war-Coventry has a unique place in history.Why does it have to be like Birmingham or whatever city is the latest trend.

What could be done is sort out the mess' they've made of it.Roads cut off and others going no-where.
The old grammar school is being renovated at horrendous cost-because it was left to rot by past councils-the same happened to Kirby house.The Charterhouse is now back in the people's hands thank goodness, but not without a fight from Coventrians.(The council had planned to let it to Bluecoat School for £20.00 for 20 years. ) And it wasn't even theirs.But of course they'd let it rot.
The old lovely Whitefriars is closed and used for storage-even if the public could get to it, with the ringroad in the way.
I read an article which said it needs a lot more of the large stores to bring people in from other towns.But why? No-one will come if we look the same as the others.
I don't know what the answer is, but apart from the raggle taggle lovely atmosphere in the Coventry market, it has lost it's feel. Too much interference I say.
Leicester hasn't done too bad a job, it's bitty but interesting.If some some of the Coventry council planners went there -f first taking off their blinkers, perhaps they'd learn something.

No doubt there's been a few boy racer types who've been doing this for years; the city council should get them involved in the organisation!

Sounds like a pointless, hair brained waste of money, and I don't think residents will like the noise and upheaval.
I know we all have different tastes, but really, what on earth could anyone find enjoyable about racing round and round in a noisy cars and trucks.

Sadly Lex, there are those that believe Coventry could win the city of culture, and the dim-witted muppets waste tax payers money trying to get it.

As I've commented in other threads, accountability is what we need!

Maybe they can get something organised for the year Coventry gets its city of culture status.
