That's the way I generally shop as well. I do a lot of my shopping at supermarkets, but if I want something of particularly good quality, I go to one of the local shops (eg I get a lot of my meat from my local butcher). Although, I do often pop into my local general store if I just want the odd thing as it's slightly closer than the supermarket.

Yes, it's a real shame, but our shopping habits are changing. The supermarkets are generally a lot cheaper than local specialised stores, and online is even cheaper. My brother (used to be a solicitor) would at one time buy his work clothes from such shops. Then he changed to buying from M&S because it was easier and cheaper, finally he switched to buying online from the US.
