HI everyone,
I'm looking to find a bargain in Stratford Upon Avon, it's such a nice town but it isn't cheap. I'd love a proper 'fixer upper', are then any such buildings left in Stratford? ![]() |

As a local estate agent, I can speak from experience that to find a property to do up is a very hard thing to find. After about seven years in the bussiness, I have just bought such a place. The problem is that most of the property developers jump on them straight away. The average man or woman in the street cant see the potential or dont want the hard work, if indeed they can find them at all.

The only cheap place in Warwickshire/Coventry are the less desirable parts of Coventry and Bedworth/Nuneaton and prob Rugby. From South Coventry downwards prices seem to spiral. Even for a run down two bed property in Earlsdon, say, you're looking at over 150K. |

Brum has enough empty houses for 30,000 people - although the city's population has been falling quite dramatically over the years. |

That's pretty incredible that there's that much free space in Birmingham, and yet I can't find anywhere affordable as a single person on a small wage. What's the reason for the fall in population in Birmingham? A lot of people are moving into the constant stream of new houses popping up all round Stratford, are people just moving to small towns like this?

Yes. Since the 1970s, the population of Coventry dropped, but the population of the "region" actually went up. City's tend to have desirable areas that are expensive, and people don't want to live in the dodgy areas - so they move out of town to commuter belt areas. |
