Wink Colours are horrible

Hi,

I know this site is new, and I'm know I'm also new. But I have to say I think your taste in colour scemes leaves a lot to be desired. Apart from that, I'm looking foward to seeing if this forum comes to life though.

Good luck!

Hi Abbie,

Don't worry, I'm just mucking around with the colours at the moment. I'm still waiting to hear on some code for the forums I'm hoping to aquire, until then there's not too much point in doing cosmetics.

Welcome to the boards.

There are a couple of nice skins round for 3.6 now Will. Might be worth a look. I've switched to default to get a navaigation method I am familiar with, but it means I lose the logo.

This is an awkward thing to get right, I had many a discussion about town site colours with friends. One was about a site up blackpool and someone who was helping. he wanted a garish theme, the admin did too, he wanted a gold golour, I thought it was too much. when it came to Atherstoneforum, I couldn't decide what to do, the young want something different , the older ones just want something simple so that they can see the forum.
I don't think the colours are too bad at all on here, there's a bit of colour but it's still simple.

I don't think the colours are that bad. I'm sure Will is lookign at other skins and customising them how he wants. It will take time to do this sort of thing.

I've looked at a few ready made skins and nothing has proved very suitable so far. I'd like to get a really good skin, but I might be adding quite a few new features to the place over the next few months, so I might wait until those are installed.

I'm pretty happy with it right now, it's certainly the best it's looked to date.

You shouldn't go agreeing with me steve, could be dangerous in here.
Theres some sight that linked to here for Nuneaton, that was red and white but that didn't look good at all. That was too in your face.

Default colours

I'm not too bothered about colours etc, you're never going to please all of the people all of the time. For me it's about content, the proof of the pudding and all that...

True, which is why I say a neutral colour is important because then it's not important, content takes over. Some sites are obsessed with intricately designed skins, usually dark with white text, which make it difficult for a lot of people read.

I NEVER stay on any forum that uses dark background and light coloured text.

Have to say I agree with you Ron with regard to content. I also feel that Will has gone to a great deal of trouble provide us with a nice site that isn't overcluttered. - Well done Will.

A fairly neutral default, with the ability to give the user a choice of change would be a good combination. The only problem I can see with the current layout, is that the navigation and look of the forum completely changes with the different styles. - Although I am currently using this to my advantage as I feel the current side navigation is lacking in some areas.

These comments are not to be taken as a put down (because I know how hard it is to sort out), merely constructive critisism to help improve.
