Default Fire in Atherstone-on-Stour

Woke up this morning & turned the radio on to hear that a vegetable packing warehouse burned down last night. 3 firefighters are missing & another died in hospital. Not good.

Lex,

I share your sentiments. Its a sad loss for any community to lose people such as these. They are nothing short of heros, laying down their lives to protect the lives and property for others. How we take them for granted.

TBH, I am disgusted that this post has been available for 2 days and no comment has passed, yet other threads bemaoning council decisions, still see new comment.

People of today, and I'm not talking about individuals, I refer to society as a whole, need to take a long hard look at themselves.

I haven't caught up with the news since this morning, but specialist teams have begun to search the remains of the warehouse, but at a slow pace as they have to make sure that the building doesn't collapse on them either.
It looks to me like the 3 firefighters didn't make it. I for one would like to pass my condolencies on to all 4 grieving families.

Some members of society appear to be becoming immune to many of the tragic events happening around them. So long as it doesn't affect them they seem to shrug it off, maybe comment "... isn't that terrible..." then continue on with their own lives.

There are also various reasons people fail to make a comment on things that happen and it shouldn't necessarily be put down to ignorance or indifference.
Personally, I read it on the news, discussed the tragedy but had not been here with it until now but this doesn't mean I, like others, am not bothered by it all.

I have friends who were fighting the fire that night, and other friends working in the aftermath of it. I will not be chastised for not pouring out my thoughts on here regarding it. To be honest I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but in a very selfish way I am grateful none of my friends were hurt. Good people put themselves in harms way for us on a daily basis, and It only seems to be noticed when ther is a tragedy like this
