“I doubt sometimes whether a quiet and unagitated life would have suited me - yet I sometimes long for it.”

They're designed as rechargeable Margaret.
If the battery has died, I'd suggest that it's not a DIY replacement. I say that because the watch is sealed from water ingress. It'll also likely require special tools to open it without damaging it.
Main agent job? Trusted local repair shop?
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.
I recently bought one Rebbonk.
It is working fine but only one year warranty.
I realised afterwards that it is a sealed unit as it is waterproof. So if it packs up, I doubt if I will find a local repair shop unless I ask Timpsons if they repair such things. Would it be a lithium battery, as I am worried about it against my skin when I wear it? I would only wear it for walking to measure how many miles I walked. My friend has a pedometer and we walked 5 miles last week, but my feet were complaining afterwards, so a lovely footpath when I got home relieved the tiring aches. We did 3 miles on Monday, which is far more comfortable a distance without getting worn out.
Out of interest, walking to Asda there and back is 2 miles.

I'd think it would be a Lithium-Ion battery.
It should last for a long time as long as you follow the instructions about basic battery care.
