    It's the growth industry. Coventry feels alien these days, but any town/city that has a university is suffering the same. When all comes crashing down (and it will) what happens to all the surplus property? It looks like Coventry may have over developed as there are currently empty student units in several of the new blocks, and many aren't finished yet.

    Maybe then we'll have the answer to the housing crisis in Coventry

    I think not Cathi. The build standards are far lower than permitted for normal apartments, and as they are private, letting them to those in real need isn't going to happen. The landlords will leave the empty rather than offer them to those truly in need.

    A Rant;

    How stupid is their logic.
    The building standards should be the same. considering the height of them,and the safety of students.
    Even so-the standards would be far better for those people living in one room with their small children, never knowing when the landlord wil end their tenancy which will put them on the streets or into temporary b and b.
    This country is rotten.and runby useless people.
    Its time for the council to bring back COUNCIL houses -- like we used to have when there was no stigma-- and let private builder do their own jobs for people who want to buy.
    Not everyone wants to buy.
    This is one of the few countries in the world where peoples aim in life is to own their home. Inthe U S most houses are rented.
    Also the 'right to buy' council houses is a major reason we have none to let.
    Where I live there are some old persons council owned nice bungalows-which are in short supply--Now I see that 13 out of 16 have been sold under he right to buy.

    Spot on Cathi. Sadly, the public are easily duped and the little God of money often raises his obscene head.
