    Default Council Tax Rise

Basically, we'll be paying 1% more to make the homeless problem someone else's problem sometime in the future: http://www.stratford-herald.com/8090...uncil-tax.html

    It's all smoke and mirrors.

So much has been taken out of the 'council tax' and added on as a precept. They think the electorate are stupid!
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

I wonder how many extra police officers we'll get on the streets?

A big fat zero would be my guess.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking too.

Another maximum possible rise; at least it's being put towards services: https://www.rugbyadvertiser.co.uk/ne...dget-1-8367440

Local councils are riddled with inefficiencies. There really is no excuse to carry on bleeding the electorate dry the way they are.

I'm not impressed. Council Tax is my 2nd biggest bill (and not by a lot), and all I get out of it is street lighting, bin collections & pot holes in all the roads I have the privilege of driving on.

    It's my biggest bill.

The problem is that we really don't see what we get for it, and so much of what we pay for doesn't affect us directly. My gripe is that local councils are playing politics and hurting those that need the services by cutting them and blaming central government.

With the creation of the WMCA we ought all be seeing reduced bills because of the opportunities to remove duplicate services, if not the horrendous waste and 'jobs for the boys' that has gone on for years. Any half competent business analyst could rip into the average council and identify plenty of opportunities for saving money.

It doesn't help when Councils like Coventry are sitting on piles of cash, (OUR money) refusing to support many services, but squandering it on projects that they ought be keeping well away from. - Friargate to name but one.

Coventry's Council Tax is going up by 4.9% as well: https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/ne...x-set-14280738

Perhaps they ought no go bailing out failed businesses and ought to focus on providing the services they are obliged to?

No doubt there'll be a bit of token cash handed out to services as we approach the local elections in May.

Apparently, there are a few independents thinking of standing in Coventry come May. I personally don't think it'll make any difference, as a pig wearing a red rosette would get elected in Coventry.

It's the same in Stratford District - put a blue rosette on a spud, and it'll get all of the votes.

It's that cycle that needs breaking Lex. I try to interest my kids in politics but they simply aren't. Unless the people get involved, nothing is going to change.

I've been voting against the Conservatives at a local level for years now, mainly because the Lib Dems seem to actually care about their constituents, and Stratford District needs a strong opposition to the self-serving, money-grabbing g**s that have been running the council for years.
