    Default Gas explosion Stratford, 1912

On May 8th 1912 at 8.20pm, there was a massive explosion at Stratford Gas works, Birmingham Road. It could be heard as far away as Warwick. Stratford and surrounding areas were plunged into darkness. 2 men died, Arthur Timms and George Collins (Grandfather of Philip from N.F.U.). The widows were given £10 each by the Corporation, they had six and nine children. It took 2 days to restore the gas supply.
