I wouldn't hold my breath about the scheme being scrapped: https://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/...ncil-1-8919899

I think it depends just on who stands to make money if it goes ahead!
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

Project shelved for the time being.

Controversial plans by Warwick District Council to relocate its Riverside House HQ in Leamington have been shelved, the authority has confirmed.

Could be a case of, like a lot of organisations, WDC has realised it's cheaper to get people to work in their spare bedrooms.

I think we're going to see a lot of this in the future, Lex. I hope those working from home are properly insured! I'm also interested in how many homeworkers are going to be making claims for heating/lighting as the winter comes in.

    Yes indeed.
'Working from home' was the rallying cry 25 - 30 years ago when the digital revolution got going.
It's happening now - but not in ways we thought of back then.
Now firms are sub-contracting to the State.
That's why IMHO none of these employment claims will succeed because - hey - this is a national emergency but an emergency which the whole system wants to call the 'new normality.'

Apparently, you can claim tax relief for working from home. It only amounts to a couple of hundred pounds a year, but better thsn nothing.

I wonder how long that relief will last once the government realise how much society is going to lose in other taxes as companies downsize premises and people downsize their cars and fuel them less, not to mention many local support businesses (food etc.) ceasing to trade? - The consequences of this move to working from home will be very far-reaching and I don't think things have been thought through properly.

That's something that's been niggling my mind for a while now. However things work out, I have a feeling I'll be paying more tax - still having to drive to the office to work, being someone who believes in working for a living, has no dependents & doesn't tick any 'diversity' boxes.

The plans for a new HQ have been dropped, and the council are looking to redevelop their current offices: https://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/...ington-3324285

Some offices are moving into the Pump Rooms - not a popular move: https://leamingtonobserver.co.uk/new...mp-rooms-plan/

A better use could be made of the building.
