I'm sure this will only improve the city's high quality Social Services department.

Councils sicken me. There is always plenty of waste to be cut, but they always cut jobs and front-line services to make political statement.
I once managed to get an audience with a senior representative of a local council and demonstrated the principles of waste and how they impacted efficiencies and cost. His response... "Good luck with that mate, I ain't going to rock the boat!"
I have yet to come across any public service that is efficient and lean. - And that means they are haemorrhaging our money.
The unions have started jumping up and down: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/new...uncils-7522194
They can jump up and down as much as they like, they are also part of the problem!
Time to get realistic!
Yes, all they're interested in is getting their members' money. Maybe they should try and be a bit more constructive & work with the council to make the best of the situation.
I wonder what the union rep. thinks will the council will do when the money from selling assets and the city's reserves have been spent?

You can only sell an asset once!
I have no objection to them selling items that aren't part of their core business or that are costing the tax payer money, but a careful balance needs to be struck.
Frankly, I don't trust Lucas and the rest of her rotten council to get us the best deals...
The cuts continue!

Yet this is happening... http://www.coventryobserver.co.uk/20...te-122510.html
My thoughts about Gannon are unprintable, especially as the little [censored very naughty word] is doing a PhD on democracy at Warwick Uni. I'd love to know what his 'director of studies' makes of his actions.
The last thing that'll be cut is their salaries.
Well, maybe there is a God...

Serve the little turd right
Or maybe just a token effort to appease the city's Labour voters in the run up to the elections? (It could just be I'm feeling cynical due to a long week!)
You may be right Lex, but seeing that smug little git lose office (for whatever reason) would force me to have a drink or two in celebration.
I watched smarmy know all Lucas on tv last week patting herself on her back again. I wonder if she went on the junket to Paris at the weekend with the other half dozen to reward herself for kicking the unfortunates again when they are down.
If only we could get a real handle on every £ they really spend, right down to the odd coppers. Can't see either why they are moving the city centre either when money is short and who thought of taking down the footbridge over the ring road.More money wasted. Who goes to the canal basin now that the nice shops have closed down.It could have been a successful feature if only there had been a free--or 10p a time shuttle bus up and down.?
