Sadly there are many dogs in this country looking for homes. As a nation of 'animal lovers' we are pretty despicable.

My last two dogs have come from rescue centres. The first one I had for 13 years, he was about 19 when he died; the present one I have had for 11 years which I reckon makes her about 14/15. Not bad lives for German Shepherds.

BTW, Greyhounds are not very demanding and are really couch potatoes!

Dogs generally don't ask for much, but give an awful lot.

I never used to be a dog person until a good friend of mine took on a collie from a local rescue place. It's one of the best natured critters I've come across and now dogs are starting to grow on me. (Although I'll always be a cat person at heart)
