Dead man found in the River Avon

DEAD man found in the River Avon in Evesham is most likely from Warwickshire or Worcestershire, police have said. Officers want help identifying the white man, aged between 45 and 55, who was found near the Weir Meadow Caravan Park in Castle Street at 10.10am, Wednesday. A few years back I saw them haul a body out of the canal at Longford. Believe me, it wasn't a pretty sight.

Yes, it must be a pretty gruesome site for any passerby or fisherman to spot a dead body floating in the canal.
It is awful to think that they died alone. That was the most upsetting thing for me when I worked on the wards, when a patient would would die in the night without anyone with them, I remember on night shift when we were particularly busy and admitting patients, a little old lady was calling out for her deceased husband, most of the night, we tried to comfort her and settle her as best we could, but in the morning we found her dead. I just went into the linen cupboard and wept.

I've also been witness to this many times. I'd like to think with the improvement in communications and mobiles- people can at least contact their Dearest and Nearest when they feel they need them. It isn't easily done if you're incapacitated of course but at least it is better than 15 years ago and before that.
