    Unhappy Daw Mill Colliery Fire

Thankfully, all the miners down the mine at the time are safe, but it looks like the end of coal mining in Warwickshire. To be honest, I didn't realise that the industry was so big in the county - 20 pits at one point.

About 800 jobs to go? - That's still a pretty big operation.

Yes, it'll be a big shock to the economy of the area. Apparently, the pit was under review for closure anyway, and the fire hasn't helped it's chances 1 bit.

That's not good news for those employed even if they realised the mines were ear marked for possible closure it's still a shock for them.

It has been predicted in various newspapers lately that some pits could be reopened, due to the cost of gas and electricity which will continue to rise-they got us over a barrel now that most homes use it and have no fireplaces or even chimneys any more.At least we could burn wood or coal in emergencies.
I DID READ OF SOME PIT WHICH HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY THE EX-WORKERS AND WILL REOPEN SOON...CANT THINK WHERE IT WAS THOUGH.
