That sounds very nice. I love mushy peas.
Do you use a whole tin of baked beans?
The Co-op used to sell curried beans, but longer seem to sell then now.

Yes Margaret, I used a whole tin.

I was really surprised at just how filling it was. Most curries I've had in the past leave you feeling hungry a couple of hours later. I think it was the mushy peas that provided the 'full' feeling.
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

My kind of food Cathi. Sadly, Mrs. R doesn't like fish.

Mrs. R bought some of that Aunt Bessie's mash last week. I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

Well, I fancied some tinned carrot and butterbean soup from Tesco, (not their own make) but the butterbeans were not cooked properly, still a bit firm. The beans were probably old as they take longer to cook. I find that is the problem with butterbeans in soup it is pot luck if they are cooked properly or not. So in future I will be buy my own.

We found it very salty! Looks like I'm using it up in a potato and onion pie next week.

I fancied trying some salmon fishcakes, served with the usual veg.
I also sampled some pea and mint soup, which was very nice. It is good to find pea and mint soup, without the ham. Usually they have ham in it.

Mrs R has a couple of microwaveable burger batches (Rustlers?) tonight. I'm finishing the salty mash off in a potato and onion pie.

Pushing the boat out a bit tonight with Gammon steak and Irish sausages, with onions and peppers, and veg.

    They'll sleep after that lot!

I think we're going for chicken kievs tonight. A glass of brandy afterwards and I'll sleep too!

What is the best way to stop red/purple cabbage from bleeding, most of the water turns purple, and I make an interesting coloured gravy with it. But I wonder if there is a way to prevent the cabbage bleeding and losing its colour by the time its cooked.

You need to add a mild acid to the cooking water. Perhaps apple juice, lemon juice or maybe wine?

But it will still bleed a little

Also, don't cook it in a non anodised aluminium pan.
