    Toad-in-the-hole.

I bought a packet of sprouts with chestnuts from Marks, but the chestnuts tasted vile. I could swear they tasted like bleach or something.
    Has anyone here taste chestnuts?

I love chestnuts. We used to 'roast' them on the ledge of our gas fire as kids. More recently, I'll either pop them in the microwave or boil them.

Tonight is jacket potatoes, beans and hot-dog sausages. I'm not a particular fan of the sausages, but they're light and easy to heat which suits Mrs R.
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

Normally , I like chestnuts, but those I mentioned had a strange taste, almost bitter. I don't even know if they were British chestnuts.

Ahem.... left a bag of shopping on the bus this morning with what we were going to have for our dinner today. So we had fish and chips from the local chippy instead. I must say it was very nice.

Any chance of getting your shopping back, Margaret?

Thanks Lex, but we didn't bother phoning up the bus depot, there was only about 4 items in the bag we left behind which included the meal we bought for today. It didn't amount to much, luckily my husband had most of the shopping in his rucksack. I think what distracted us was that we were busy talking to a friend and forgot the extra bag we had the bits of shopping in.
We do have a shopping trolley, but don't bother taking I with us normally.

Apparently, a lot of 'foreign' chestnuts taste like this. Not something I was aware of until I spoke to a 'forager'.

That's good to know, I'll stick to good old English chestnuts.

We had something quick for dinner today, after walking round Warwick and Leamington shopping , *'ma feet are lowpin'. now resting them after we had chips , beans and breaded turkey, escalopes.

    * Lowpin, Scottish for throbbing in agony. It means leaping but the Scot's have queer sayings. Gei'n me jip!

I had haddock fishcakes, with vegetable bake.
    No pud.

I will cook the apple pie tomorrow.

I'm doing a pasta bake tonight. Mrs R's still not got much of an appetite.

I'm off to the pub tomorrow afternoon, so it'll be chip butties for ease and simplicity. - Not had them for ages.

    More Turkey anyone?

We've got some turkey slices left, but had homemade broth instead. We didn't over buy this year and pleased to say we haven't had much waste.
