I've got leg of pork for my roast this week as well - joints are always good for meals for a few days.

Cooked mine this morning Lex. It looks good.
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

We've just had the first pork meal, very nice it was too. Pork salad tomorrow.

Easy quick dinner tonight, chicken and chips with curry sauce.

I ask her, "What brand are these chips?"

She replies, "They're the ones you bought last week!"

I'm none the wiser, but it's apparently me that has 'communication' problems!

Mostly salads at the moment, with the occasional hot meal.
Yesterday we had spicy bean burgers with veg.

Last night we'd got pork steaks but couldn't decide what to have with them. I suggested I do pasta and mushroom sauce. Mrs R pulled a face and complained that she didn't like pasta, but agreed to me cooking it! When I dished it up, she complained that I'd given her too much pasta, and reminded me that she didn't like it!

Guess who ate the pasta and gave most of the pork to the dog?

I'm off out for a few pints this afternoon, so she's cooking. Apparently, it'll be sausage, chips and beans because I don't appreciate anything better when I've had a drink. - Absolutely nothing to do with her wanting to watch Emmerdale! No siree!

Well, I'm not a strict vegetarian, but I rather like those vegan Kievs , just purely veg. made with, sweet potato , spinach , ginger and chilli sauce. A nice change served up with what ever side veg you like. I had it with broccoli and carrots. Sometimes just with a tin of beans.

Spicy lentil and veg soup, very nice, and something new funny looking vegan sausages made with sweet potato and beans and chilli, very bland. I think I'll pass by them next time I see them. Blech!

Sausages of all varieties seem to be causing us trouble Margaret. The outer skin seems to be very tough these days, no matter how you cook them.

I once wrote an article, for a computer magazine of all things, on a discussion of poaching sausages before frying/grilling/ovening them. My conclusion was that you shouldn't poach, but I'm now wondering if cooking this way might 'tenderise' the skins?

Poaching may soften the skin, but our local butcher makes his sausages in the shop, the favourites are the 'hog roast' sausages and the skin isn't tough. He seems to have a knack for that.

Do you slowly fry them in a pan or do you put them in the oven?

I always cook sausages in the oven and prick them first so they don't spit.

The sausages I buy from the butcher I use in Stratford never seems to have tough skins. Maybe it's something to do with the production methods of supermarket mystery bags?

    I usually oven my sausages.

Interesting comments from you both, as we've bought from local butchers and farm shops and had the same problems. I'm now even more puzzled as it's not a problem we had a couple of years back.

Talking about sausages, I have just learned that my local butcher has taken early retirement and sold his business to a family member. I hope he will be as good.

My husband likes macaroni and cheese so he will have that today, and I will have cottage cheese with veg , beetroot etc.. nothing to time consuming, slaving over the cooker.
