the hamlet that has been there evermore
in the hamlet is a smithy, always working,
and a black cat sits there sleeping by the door

in this hamlet always happy, lives a weaver such a good man
his life is simple, always weaving never wanting any more
and his wife has raised a floundling, now a young man
and a black cat runs and hides behind the door

for this village, never changing, never troubled,
has a stranger walking through it and whats more
this man is on a mission to find the right one, its his calling
and the black cat lead him to the weavers door

Within the weaver's cottage the weaver takes his tea
He hears the sound of knocking; he strides across the floor
The weaver fumbles in his pocket, for his huge gigantic key
And as the black cat watches he quickly opens up the door.

He greets the caller warmly; "Come and share some tea"
"You must be tired and weary, your feet they must be sore."
The weaver stands aside; wonders who this man doth be
And the black cat wanders in, through the open door.

The weaver closed the heavy door and locks it with the key
He wonders why this man is here; prepares some tea to pour.
"Do eat some bread and spread it well with honey from the bee"
And the black cat curls up on a chair; with one eye on the door.

As they both sit down together; a silence filled the air
Each with their own very thoughts; the weaver reaches for a drawer.
The weaver feels uneasy; he must indeed beware.
And the black cat, clearly startled, heads towards the door.
    Cool

the weaver, clearly worried takes a large knife from the drawer
and carved a ragged slice or four
the stranger, having settled, gave his purpose full of meaning
and the black cat moved still closer to the door

'I'll not trouble you for vitals' said the traveller in a voice so deep and steady
'i bring news from a better time before the war'
and the wife looked at the weaver, her face whiter than a ghost
and the black cat watched a shadow 'neath the door

'a child was born, of great importance' said the stranger
'but the parents true and worthy are no more'
and they knew their son was leaving
and the black cat walked straight through the locked front door

The weaver looked across, at his wife who had said nought
And said "His time has come and is within the law"
But the weaver's wife said nothing, her face was duly fraught
And the black cat sat, within the shadows; near the locked front door.

The traveller sat and waited whilst the weaver left the room
He returned not minutes later, with his son of twenty four
The weaver's wife embraced her son; her grief must not consume
And the black cat stood ready; outside the door.

    "Your son was chosen long ago" the traveller said to them;
With that he rose up to his feet; "We now must fight a war."
They walked towards the open door; it now was past P.M.
And the black cat followed; the weaver closed the door.
    Cool

and as the boy named gullible, walked away from all he knew
to pursue his destiny with a man he'd never seen before
the questions raced through his mind, they flew
and the black cat swept before

he asked where they were going, he asked him who he was
he asked him why and when and who and asked him so much more
but the stranger kept his council
and the black cat raised a paw

as if the cat saw something, that no one else could see
it hissed and spat, and struck with tooth and claw
it leapt onto the strangers shadow and fought with all his might
and the black cat fought no more

As they passed the smithy's cottage something caught the traveller's eye
He felt a presence near him and peered above the gloom
Across the full and glowing moon a witch came flying by!
And the black cat now, was clinging to the broom.

The pair increased the pace; a boat awaited them
From the smithy's barn an owl swooped low; prophesying doom?
The traveller changed direction to from where the waters stem
The black cat had vanished from the broom.

In the mist, the boat appeared, it's crew were mostly silent
The traveller boards the boat but Gullible's knees begin to freeze
Sensing his life about to change; into the boat he went
And the black cat appeared; crossed their path with ease.

The journey time was short; across to the other side
In the distance was a mansion; Gullible wondered about his fate
With hoods pulled up, into the mist they stride.
And the black cat walks through the mansion gate.
    Cool
