Applying makeup and driving with elbows among offences seen by HGV-hiding cops
Traffic cops on Warwickshire's have detected almost 2,700 offences as part ‘Operation Tramline’

A driver applying makeup behind the wheel and another person steering with their elbows are just some of the offences detected by police riding in HGVs to spot driving offences, according to National Highways. Traffic cops in Warwickshire have detected almost 2,700 offences as part of an operation which has seen officers taking to the roads in unmarked HGVs.

Described as "an innovative trial to find new ways to deter unsafe driving," we can thank ‘Operation Tramline’ after common offences such as not wearing a seat belt and using a mobile phone while driving were detected. But the operation has also seen some more unusual offences too.

Reporting on the success of the operation, which is being deployed at several police forces across the country, including Warwickshire, National Highways revealed on the M40 local traffics cops spotted one motorist putting on make up while driving. Another was seen steering their vehicle using only their elbows.
