I think the current university model is about played out. People are realising that you don't need 'higher' education to get a good job.
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.
IMHO, unless you get a vocational/useful degree, university is a waste of time unless you want to devote your career to academia (e.g. History).
Consolidation of universities may be the way forward.....
