Wow - what a brouhaha!
Over at Talk Sport, its open season on get-it-off-your-chest.
Who needs an election when you have high drama at Talk Sport?
To my. very untutored, eye what we have here is the most egregious instance of monopoly power ever.
A club - is it that or a conglomerate - with almost limitless global capital at its disposal wants to re -form the entire Premier League.
The PL wants to limit sponsorship (which seems to be a vehicle for other things) but MC say this is anti-competitive (shouldn't there then be a reference to the Competition Commission?) and are suing the PL.
The amount of comments at TS is staggering and most, beyond the mere vitriolic, are very, very anti- Manchester City, and they make all sorts of arguments.
Laws are there for a purpose. The main being to protect the weaker from the stronger. If the owners do not like those laws they should go elsewhere. The PL are defending football generally. MC couldn't give a f.. about anyone but themselves. MC seem to have destroyed their own brand, and they'll find no way back from this. The owners should be stripped (like Abramovich was).
Someone said, of course, they may want to set up a super league but the government have made it abundantly clear that this cannot and will not happen.
So, this is the ultimate own goal
An incredible instance of arrogance, hubris the Greeks called it, destroying themselves.
Is there any way back for them?
