Default Underground Coal Gasification Ban Lifted

This has possible implications for Warwickshire: https://stratfordobserver.co.uk/news...ses-ban-41338/

There's a coal seam under a big chunk of the county, which I never realised. Having done a quick bit of reading, there's potential for a lot of environmental damage - carbon dioxide/monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur, water conramination etc...

Plus, there's subsidence (the West Midlands is a great example), and the questionable wisdom of settilg light to coal seams (towns in the USA have had to be abandoned due to coad fired burning out of control).

I think there's an underground mine fire in Gateshead that has been burning for about 10 years.

As a youngster, I remember local outbreaks around an area we knew as 'clod banks'.

I personally think this is madness, but time will tell.
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

Coventry's included in the UCG area too: https://coventryobserver.co.uk/news/...-for-fracking/

Like you, Rebbonk, I think this is a daft idea.

That's an interesting graphic, Lex. I'm well out of the area, but it hasn't changed my view.

The whole thing stinks of the new government's approach - panic & try to make a quick profit.

I have a suspicion that Thick Lizzie (one of the more polite references to her) is going to have a very brief tenure.

The Tory conference might be rather telling. - I see a few MPs have already said that they won't be attending.

Yes, the media seems to be hinting at mumblings on the back benches.

Rugby's MP looks to be in favour of this. I wonder if he's following the party line, or looking to make money out of it: https://stratfordobserver.co.uk/news...ngering-41687/

    It won't happen.
