At one time they had a perfectly good 'sheltered' market. - A far better idea in my opinion.

The centre is paved, so it could be done. But the problem is that you are at the mercy of the elements whereas at the moment there is some shelter. Open air markets are all fine on sunny summer days, they're not so good on wet windy ones.

We really don't have the year-round weather for open markets. Yes, when the weather's good it's great to be outdoors, but it isn't good that often. Look at how Nuneaton's open market fares over a couple of years.
