Default UK Gets Space Command Centre

This sounds strangely like a comedy I watched recently on Netflix: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58029083

We made a big mistake in dropping our space programme years ago. Like in so many things, our politicians were shortsighted.
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

Apparently, an experimental satellite we sent up into space 50-odd years ago is still up there & sending signals.

We led the world in aerospace, Lex. The politicians squandered it all for short-term gain. - SNAFU!

Ever seen or heard about this, Lex? Few people know the story.

Wonder where the 'stealth' bomber came from?

Yes, it looks vaguely familiar from some documentaries I've seen about the development of aircraft, but can't remember a lot about it.

The AW52. When I first started work many were still annoyed about this. Many had worked on it and many could see its commercial (and military) potential. Sadly, AWA didn't have bottomless pockets and scrapped the project after an indifferent government view on it.

The TSR2 is a later project worth reading up about. Fantastic aircraft that might still be flying today had the government not interfered and dictated alliances. Incidentally, Thatcher enquired about the possibility of reviving the TSR2 over the Falklands crisis. - Shame everything had been destroyed 20 years earlier!

Another aborted AWA project. I wonder what happened to it...?
