Default National Insurance Tax to Rise?

Fantastic. Paying for a service I won't be needing for decades, if at all, and will probably have to fork out for anyway if I do need it: https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/ne...rding-21101658

It's always been the way, Lex. It's a giant Ponzi scheme, that if you or I set up would be shut down PDQ. It's actually quite amazing how many people think that their NI contributions are held in trust until they need them.
Of course it'll fit, you just need a bigger hammer.

I often wonder why I bother having a job & pension, paying a mortgage, and trying to save a bit of money. I could very easily give up all my self respect and live in a huge house with a nice income courtesy of the state.

Unfortunately, Lex, sometimes it simply doesn't pay to provide for yourself. We have a system that seems to favour the feckless, rather than the responsible.

And didn't our council tax go up to provide for 'extra social care'? Ever felt that TPTB are extracting the urine?

I did a brief bit of reading before my blood reached 100c. It looks like a lot of this money is just to put pepole under a roof; feeding people doesn't seem to be as important.
