    Sounds like a studenty thing.

If folks are cash strapped, then surely they are only going to buy the essentials anyway and not waste it.

You'd have thought so, wouldn't you! You never know, though - there might be a useful tip or 2 to pick up.

You can't help but notice in a queue in a supermarket what other people have filled their trollies with, and almost invariably up to a half or even more is rubbish and virtually nil nutritional value, ie. crisps, chocolate, flavoured soft drinks, cakes, and so on.

You can get Annie Chalk paint - as featured in the article - for £18.95 a litre: http://www.anniesloan.co.uk/acatalog/Pure_profile.html

    Or buy 5 litres from B&Q for £24: http://www.diy.com/search/results/?q...D3C_PWD_IN_012

I used Crown breatheasy emulsion paint for this craft.Small tubes are very cheap and go a long way.As with the annie paint it needs waxing or matt /lustre varnish spray.I transformed a whole outdated fireplace wooden wall. Cobalt blue overlaid with wheatgrass.

That's the problem I find with all these offers - they tempt you to buy more than you need. I've often got funny looks from shop assistants when I don't 'take advantage of' 2-4-1 and 3-4-2 offers when I only need 1 of something!

I find it deliberately encourages waste, especially with food. Like you, I'll never take more than I can actually use. Though sometimes with non perishable food I'll take it and pass the 'freebie' on to the foodbank.

But, as I keep telling Mrs Rebbonk, nothing is for free. One way or another we pay.

Now there's an idea Mr R - buy 2-4-1 offers, and give the '1' to your local foodbank. Maybe something we all could get in touch with our local foodbanks about?
