We spent yesterday afternoon at a canal-side pub. It was thoroughly enjoyable and quite warm. The beer went down well!
I was stuck at work. Humph!
I used to hate office work on the real hot days, the aircon would usually be inadequate and you'd swelter. But the worst I remember was the summer of '76. I was working on flight line for aircraft, it was awful. You couldn't even touch the aircraft without getting burned.
We had a Shackleton that we were installing radio and radar in and we ended up running a long plastic tube through the fuselage, front to back and connected a ground cooling unit to it. Wherever anyone was working they simply cut a hole in the tube and had their own localised cool spot. - It was even suggested that we change our hours to miss the late afternoon heat.
Just checked the weather forecast. The minimum temperature is dropping to 15c tonight, with very little breeze; a nice sweaty, sleepless night for all!
I don't know about anyone else, but the hot weather is getting a bit much now - I'm starting to find the heat a bit oppressive.
Yes, I'm even more short tempered than normal... Or so I'm told!
Thankfully, my place is quite cool (north facing), so I have some relief from the heat.
Ours faces north too, it definitely makes a difference.
Managed to find a shady spot in the beer garden of my favourite pub this afternoon. Now back at my place with the windows open - still too hot for me to want to eat, though.
We stopped in today, it was far too hot to take the dog anywhere. Mrs R is doing a Beef salad tonight, but we won't eat until later when it's cooled a bit.
Had poached salmon & salad for lunch. As I'm not hungry, I've got a nice bottle of wine on the go, and having a bit of a '80s retrofest thanks to Youtube.
Thunder storms (might!) be on the way: https://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/...hire-1-8565610
I guess they'll be pretty hit and miss, but it'll be rather unpleasant if you get caught in one.
None in the south of the county so far...
According to the weather radar we're in for rain in about 15 minutes. The evening dog walk may be put back a little.
