The trouble is that floats are expensive to provide. At one time there were plenty of big businesses locally that could stand the cost. Sadly, we have very few businesses these days that are big enough, or flush enough with cash that are willing to put something back into the community.

It's a sign of the times Lex. Despite what we're being told by the media, many companies are struggling.
Maybe the supermarkets with their 5p plastic bag tax ought be asked? - Though I think generally they prefer to be seen to be giving to high profile charities for the sake of their own images.
