Little dog sleeps, with a closed eye on the door
just for the moment sprawled out on the floor an ears nervous twitch as the floorboards creak and she waits, ever patient, for her master to speak. she'll do as he says 9 times out of ten as long as he praises and treats her again if he isn't looking, she'll look for herself and steal a small morsel from table or shelf the master is up, and he's putting on boots! she trembles and yelps and skitters and scoots! off round the fields, the furries take flight nothing is safe in morning noon or night With all squirrels treed, and all rabbits gone to ground she might come on back, if she's a good little hound and walking back home bedraggled and wet he'll worry she's limping and might need the vet now back home and cleaned up, he sees that she's sound, it was just her teararsing over uneven ground now she's back in her spot keeping watch on the door and the master, now seated, on his foot feels a paw. |
