It would seem that it is an old Victorian power station called Sandy Lane Power Station and was Coventry's first. Some interesting background information can be found on:
http://www.iee.org/OnComms/pn/Histor..._&_2_phase.pdf I didn't manage to find any historical photos.

Yes, that's the one.
There are a few pictures here; ::::: ELECTRICWHARF.COM | INFORMATION | HISTORY ::::: but I haven't been able to find anything else, was really hoping to find some pictures of it from the early to mid 1900's - my Grandmother worked there during that period and it would be fascinating for her to see the old pictures. |

I think too that we become very much accustomed to researching information online and indeed the internet is an excellent tool, however, sometimes when we cannot find the information we are looking for a visit to local libraries or archives will often be where those elusive documents and pictures are hiding.

Here's a picture of the power station: http://martinnike.fotopic.net/p27548096.html The Victorian bit is a small brick building out of picture - it's about the size of a garage! This whole thing has now been converted into apartments/offices for people in the creative industries. |
