Default Electric Wharf, Coventry

I'm trying to find some pictures of what the power station which has now been converted into Electric Wharf used to look like.

I'm having no luck so far, does anybody know of any available?

Thanks

It would seem that it is an old Victorian power station called Sandy Lane Power Station and was Coventry's first. Some interesting background information can be found on:

I didn't manage to find any historical photos.

Yes, that's the one.

There are a few pictures here; ::::: ELECTRICWHARF.COM | INFORMATION | HISTORY ::::: but I haven't been able to find anything else, was really hoping to find some pictures of it from the early to mid 1900's - my Grandmother worked there during that period and it would be fascinating for her to see the old pictures.

Coventry must have an archive. I've been going to the one in Stratford Upon Avon recently, and found thousands of very old pictures. COventry must have something there, I'm sure you'd find what you need in abundance.

Good luck.

I think too that we become very much accustomed to researching information online and indeed the internet is an excellent tool, however, sometimes when we cannot find the information we are looking for a visit to local libraries or archives will often be where those elusive documents and pictures are hiding.

Coventry has an archive - it's in the Herbert Art gallery. A lot of Coventry documents were destroyed during the blitz and also in the home of a private collector in Brum in the 19th century.

Here's a picture of the power station:

The Victorian bit is a small brick building out of picture - it's about the size of a garage!

This whole thing has now been converted into apartments/offices for people in the creative industries.

It certainly looks sad and forlorn in that photo. It's so good that it now has a new lease on life.
