Hello.
I have become quite interested in the early theatrical career of Patrick McGoohan. I have realised that he spent some time in 1952 as a member of the Midland Repertory Company I'm wondering if anyone remembers/knows anything about it. It was one of the last 'touring theatre companies' sponsored by the post-war arts council. I think it was wound up when Coventry opened the Belgrade in 1957/58 It was based at the College (?) Theatre in Coventry and three of it's touring locations were in Nuneaton, 'the Arts Centre' at Netherton and Stanford Hall in Loughborough.

The three touring locations that the Repertory group played, at the time McGoohan was involved are on this web-page Freelance 1952 -1954 I haven't been able to lay my hands on a phtograph of the College Theatre in Coventry. There is another reference on that page to a chap, called Colin George, who used to work with them at a similar time. I have read that Stephen Boyd (most famed for Messalina in 'Ben Hur') also was a part of the same group, a year or two after McGoohan had left. I believe Denis Carey, who became a very successful Theatre Director, also worked with the group in the immediate post-war period. ![]()

![]() They are undated but I think they're from the immediate post-war forties. I have read that at one time they strayed as far from the Midlands as Cheltenham !! ![]()
