Are they marking out places that need work? - Sounds like patchwork quilt type roads coming up...
Cool
hehe no comment on what makes them do what with the roads these days! Its all rather bizarre!
Today I read about workmen turning up at 8am with heavy machineryto repair one of the roads in Coventry. First they had their morning brew-- and drove off. Half an hour later the road sweeper lorry arrived , swept the aforesaid road and potholes -and drove off.
. Every day I look out for more comic cuts.
Its funny isn't it? Everytime you see these workers (or maybe just most of the time) they are having a cuppa?
The other thing you see is a group of them standing around one person more or less making an attempt with a shovel. The rest are breast feeding their shovels.. Do they take it in turns?
Cool
Haha yes probably - right I'll do 5 mins then you do 5 type of thing!!!! Hehe!
I saw thia thing on the BBC news yesterday or Monday can't remember, the mornings all blend into one for me, anyway I think it was in Germany somewhere, the mayor of the town is selling the pot holes to people to raise cash for them to be repaired! In return you own that little bit of road and I think they carve your name into it when it is repaired or something????? Craziness isn't it! LOL
... Don't give them any ideas ......They have enough of their own
Cool
Tell me about it!
LOL funny stuff, here in SA the state of some of our roads is a joke really, riding from Bloemfontein to Welkom i discovered that after about 2 years they are still working on the same stretch of road, granted its a long long stretch about 180 km, but now tell me this... there are these stop goes all over the place where the road has a stop allowing oncoming traffic right of way, this takes around 20 minutes sometimes as they make the stretches inbetween so long, then u eventually get ur turn to go and you are riding on a hideous dirt road been scraped out, there are huge chunks of road missing not just potholes and then u have to deal with the clouds of dust from the vehicles driving in front of you so its 20km all the way 40 if ur lucky.
Recently my husband and I drove up to the Transkei in the Eastern Cape, thats where iv re-located from just a few weeks ago, its beautiful county indeed mountain ranges and cliffs as far as the eye can see with the sea in the distance, really beautiful but to get to the really awsome untouched areas you need to go on some pretty rouch roads, they are tarred but again for around 80km u have to have eyes like a hawk or else you land in HUGE pothols cutting your tires or getting punctures, really its a 4x4's dream terrain. I just wonder about what our governments do with the funds given to repair our public roads as these roads are used daily by 1000's of people and its a real pain in the rear.
Probably pay the huge salaries 'at the top' and preserve the gold plated pensions...I just wonder about what our governments do with the funds given to repair our public roads as these roads are used daily by 1000's of people and its a real pain in the rear....
Cool
I'm starting to wonder whether there is a road anywhere that doesn't have a pothole and where the potholes actually get fixed. In a decent amount of time and without an ocean of tea being drunk?
Perhaps there is a move to get the motorist to use specific roads ie the motorways or ring roads in congested towns and to encourage that, why bother fixing the potholes? Motorists might get fedup, use those roads less, give up and drive on the roads they prefer us to use?![]()
Cool
Shizara you have a good theory there about making motorists use specific roads, with the road i mentioned you have a choice to not take it and use the Toll Gate road, a much better route but then you have to pay a toll fee to ride on it, so they coining it cause i used it the second time i rode down not wanting to cause anymore damage to my car and i was shocked at how they were ripping the people off to ride a decent road, the fee was R40 per car and R50 with trailer, the price goes up for buses, trucks and then trucks with trailers and so on, so its around 3 - 5 pounds i think if i worked my currency out right its like 12 or 13 Rand to 1 pound here.
Which may be as Mellijelli says routes for which they would charge us?
There are some nasty big craters in the roads near where I currently live and so far nothing! There is one particular road that is just a big load of craters! They can't even be classed as holes they are way too mahousive!
You realize, of course, that with the current economic climate they are likely to justify not repairing the potholes by saying they have to make X amount of £'s in cuts this year and and not fixing potholes is one of the items on the list.
