Pete Case ~ Al Britten
Monday 10th March 2008 Doors 8pm ~ 12.30 AM ~ £4 IN Tin Angel ~Spon Street ~ Coventry Cv1 3AX 024 76 559 958 info and tickets Tin Angel Tickets - Welcome The Tin Angel and Taylor John's House, Coventry Pete Case: Its been a not-uncommon event for the more, um, seasoned survivors of the early L.A. underground scene to be seen dabbling in acoustic-tinged Americana. Peter Case has probably been doing it longer than most, and therefore its somewhat surprising that Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John is his first actual solo acoustic record. Whats not surprising at all is that the album is so thoroughly engaging. Cases innate pop sensibilities show through, despite his best efforts to suppress them, but this is far from the sort of unplugged affair that many artists go for. Case hews close to his folk influences, so the most successful numbers on this stripped-down disc are the storyteller ones Million Dollars Bail, I;m Gonna Change My Ways. But even the more lyrically (and musically) straightforward tunes like Every 24 Hours (with guest Richard Thompson) are exponentially more substantial than the work being produced by any of Cases ex-punk roots-rocker contemporaries. (Notable Noise) Welcome to PeterCase.com Al Britten: Following the release of his self financed debut album If You're Standing, You're Fair Game, Coventry singer/songwriter Al Britten has shared the bill with acts such as The Enemy, Narina Pallot, Nizlopi, Vijay Kishore, and Devon Sproule to name a few. Al has developed a stark and intricate guitar style that, coupled with hooky melodies, provides the perfect backdrop to deliver his thought provoking and conscientious lyrics. Very much a product of his surroundings, Al's music journeys through the backstreets taking in the good and the bad along the way.
