new copy of xp

I need a new copy of xp home or pro i'm not fussed which. What the cheapest way of getting one?
I need one because this pc needs a reinstall and I haven't got the disc or key.
I can't get yahoo messenger to work properly it crashes when i right click, msn messenger doesn't work, it doesn't associate with my account file and explorer keeps 'not responding'
Someone said I can get one for about 50quid but isn't that only if its bought with a pc?
Also i've got a pc laying around here that had windows preinstalled but has messed up. It was bought recon from cpc for about £600 but never worked and the back up disc was scratched. It's got a licence key though. cpc wrote it off and refunded me after I threatened legal action so I can't get a new disc from them, it's an advent.
Any ideas?
