This site is hosted by 'A Small Orange', and I wouldn't recommend any other hosting company, they are quite simply brilliant.

I would recommend you avoid 1and1.co.uk like you would the plague.

The one I was going to go with was a small orange but I kept getting warwickshironline could not be found, so I was cautious. Looks like it's my isp.tiscali.
So thats who I think I'm going with, you've made my mind up.

I do find ASO slow on occasions tbh, I've been looking at a number of sites who run from ASO hosting, apparently they suffer from a trans atlantic bottleneck. I am often surprised by how long WO takes to load on occasions (and its not a heavily modded forum).

Not heard of united. At the end of the day the host is only as good as the server they put you on. What they can offer you depends on the sort of services you want to run on your site - php, mysql etc etc.

I know Will is not keen, but 1and1 have been the most reliable host I have ever been with so far. Fasthosts is the other "big" UK player. Netpivotal have very good support but I experienced downtime on the mysql databases (not a problem for the average site).

Whatever you do host your domain seperately - UKreg are brilliant.

apparently united have uk servers. I'm convinced that the site not found thing is something to do with servers. it seems to mainly be on aso hosted sites. Thing is united are 11 pound 1000mb 25 gb bandwidth to aso 10 dollars 1000mb 15 gb bandwidth.
Its twice the price for less. but i'm told its worth it because of speed.
I'm not sure how much space i need or bandwidth, I've not got any experience.

YOu have to remember that the reason some hosting companies are very cheap, is because they put limitations on all thier services. Such as 1and1, which puts rediculous limits on everything.

If this site was still on 1and1 it would not be able to function, as it has already exceeded their maximum database size, and constantly exceeds the amount of port allowences they have. It is also soon going to exceed their maximum sendmail limitations.

In short, if a hosting company seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Oh also, they heavily restrict the type of software you can use their databases for. This holds true of many cheap shared hosting services.

I've nearlly made another mistake.
I assumed all hosts would let me host several small sites with their own ip's like you do.
Do you need an account for each site on aso? or a reseller account or can I put them all on one medium account ? I'd ask on the forum but as you know what I mean I thought I'd ask you.
