Arrow Public Sector Strike

Public sector workers were on strike yesterday over pension rights, and claim there will be more.

Am I the only one here who thinks that they are totally selfish, and they should wake up and get in line with the rest of the country?

you seem suprised that public 'service' employees have only a vague understanding of the real world, complain all the time and strike at the drop of a hat. imagine how suprised you will be when you find out how much money they are wasting at this time of year just to keep there budgets for next year...
and cue much bleating about how hard it is working in the public sector...

I'm fairly ambivilant about this one. In a way I sympathise with them; I work in the private sector, and have seen my pension rights slowly being stripped away & management effectively cutting my pay by refusing to give proper pay rises, which has done wonders for my morale. I wish my union had the balls to make a stand like that.
On the other hand (partly thanks to that nice Mr Brown), pensions are having a really tough time meeting their commitments. What's more, not only do I have to pay into my own pension scheme, a huge chunk of my extortonate taxes (which I don't seem to get much value for money from) pays for their pension. Hell, some people don't know when they've got it good, I know people who are forced to retire at 60 when they can't afford to & can't get another job because of their age. If public sector workers don't want to work to 65, they should move aside & let those who want to/have to do their jobs instead.

I agree Lex, sure they may have a tough job (although we only have thier word for that), but so do plenty of other people who don't get half of what they do.

Not sure what they're complianing about, really. While they now have a nice retirement age of 60 or 65; everyone else's state retirement age is being bunked upto 68.
