Great. Another excuse for Stratford District Council to throw money at tourism, to the detriment of locals: http://stratfordobserver.co.uk/news/stratford-avon-named-world-wide-must-visit-destination/

Maybe it's just me, but why?
Sure, there are a few old buildings and alleged links to a supposed great writer but what else? OK, perhaps I'm a cultural philistine, but I just don't see the attraction of a dead writer's town.
I remember the first time I went to Stratford and I honestly thought it a tacky tourist trap, designed to part the naive American and Japanese tourists from their money. As I visited more times, I found my way into the 'back streets' which I found far more interesting. The real reason I used to visit was that it was 'open' on a Sunday afternoon. It was somewhere to go.
I've not visited for while now and I'm no longer restricted to Sunday visits, so I may change my mind.
