Took the dog out last night and sat having a drink in the local hostelry.

The local undertaker comes in, says, "Hello stranger, not seen you in here for a while. I've seen you walking the dog, you haven't half lost some weight."

Now, I don't believe I've lost much weight and the scales would agree with me; but should I be bothered that an undertaker seems to have noticed?

Reminds me of Mrs. Gamp and the undertaker in In Charles Dickens novel, Martin Chuzzlewit.
Mrs. Gamp's job was the night nurse to patients that she had a deal with the undertaker who would often ask her '' and how is our latest patient, Mrs. Gamp'' and she would reply, '' I don't think he's long for this world now sir'' even as she was measuring them up for their box .

To be completely fair, the family are really OK and if you didn't know what they did for a living you'd never guess. His wife was in the pub one night and I had my adult kids with me. I asked them what they thought she did for a living. Boy, were they shocked when they found out.
